Jackson EMC Foundation Awards MedLink Georgia $15,000 Grant
The Jackson EMC Foundation awarded MedLink Georgia a $15,000 grant to assist the corporation with furnishings for the expansion at the MedLink Colbert Office. These funds will be used to equip the new exam rooms with exam tables, side chairs, and other equipment to make the rooms safe and comfortable for patients and caregivers. The Jackson Electric Foundation's Board of Directors is responsible for distribution of funds from the Electric Cooperative's "operation Round-up" where members who get their electricity from Jackson Electric elect to "round-up" their monthly bill to provide assistance to not for profit agencies in the area. MedLink Colbert's five practitioners see an average of 100 patients each day. Last year, an addition to the building created six new exam rooms and offices which require furnishing. The $15,000 from the Jackson Electric Foundation will provide this much needed equipment so that patients can enjoy the improved patient flow and lower wait time for a room to be available. The corporation is grateful for these funds from the Foundation and for the support of the staff at the local JEMC office in Madison County. MedLink Hosts Breakfast
On May 12th MedLink hosted breakfast for Business Leaders and Representative Terry England. England represents the 116th District in the Georgia House of Representatives. The district includes most of Barrow County and its municipalities. The event was held at the MedLink Winder campus located in Snoden Village at 133 W. Athens Street in Winder Georgia. Attendees from the community, local dignitaries and patients listened as Representative England spoke about the rural healthcare crisis and the importance of having a Community Health Center to work with hospitals and the community to be a more affordable alternative to healthcare. England shared several initiatives underway that includes focus groups made up of rural hospital leaders, physicians, and state lawmakers. This would allow everyone to evaluate the need in their specific area and emphasis would be on working together so all medical entities in the community would benefit from a strategically planned partnership. Hospital emergency rooms are financially burdened by uninsured patients using the ED as their primary care provider. Today Rep. England talked about how the 12 MedLink Community Health Centers could assist hospitals in their service area by offering a more affordable route of care. With that in mind, MedLink's President and CEO Dave Ward plans to reach out to hospitals in the MedLink service area (that covers over 26 North Georgia counties). His goal along with his Administrative team will be to work hand in hand with the hospital EDs and other ancillary departments to solidify a continuum of care for the communities they serve.
